The Tamir Trilogy takes place in a well rendered medieval type world. In this story the boy twin is killed at birth and its body imprinted onto the girl twin in order that one day the girl could rule the kingdom (prophecy involved). Something goes wrong with the switch and the boy twin ends up haunting his sister (who doesn't even know she is a girl). This series is a really well crafted mix of ghost story (plenty of those), insanity, guilt, coming of age-with a twist and traditional fantasy with magic, romance, warriors, witches and of course a well hated villain or 2.
Fantasy Series Review by Mulluane
One thing that intrigued me was the exploration into inherent male/female traits verses taught precepts. There are times when Tobin instinctively exhibits female behavior without understanding why but generally acts like the boy she is being raised as. The author also does a brilliant job of exploring what might happen once a boy discovers that he/she is actually a girl.
But that is only part of the story, granted its the unique part, but the series as a whole is a complex and compelling read. The heroes are flawed, the villains are nasty but even their motives are completely understandable. I found the subject matter to be refreshing, the characters believable and even lovable. The magic wasn't a structured as I would like (cause, effect, cost) but thats a minor point. There is mature subject matter, sex, language, violence, references to bodily functions, but most of it concerns the transition of Tobin into a woman and is an integral part of the story. Still I suggest this series only for mature teens and of course adults.
