The Crossroads Trilogy is the story of a country under siege. Slowly, bit by bit, towns, villages, and cities are being attacked and isolated by unknown forces with unknown goals. The only thing that stands in their way is the reeves who, with their huge eagles, patrol the lands know as the Hundred. But even those are disappearing and the places where they were once welcomed are turning them away. To make matters worse, the Guardians, beings appointed by the gods to be peacemakers and lawgivers have also vanished.

An Epic Fantasy Series Review by Mulluane

Prophecy says an outlander will save them. But which one? The handsome prince with a price on his head? The smart and beautiful reluctant bride? Her insecure brother? What about her best friend or maybe even her slaves? Or is the prophecy wrong and the savior is somebody closer to home. Could it be the temple trained assassin, her brother the former debt slave, or one of the reeves with their high flying eagles? And who is this army anyway? Where did they come from and what do they want? And what happened to the Guardians!

So begins a long, complex and intense journey. Along the way you will meet a wide variety of people, all from diverse cultures and all with intriguing stories. You will witness with horror the depths of mankind's depravity and experience with joy the heights of its capacity for selflessness.  But even better, you will discover that most of the players in this drama are neither heroes nor villains. They are people doing their best to survive under harsh conditions, making both good and bad choices along the way.

There are adult themes in this series. There are acts of extreme cruelty that will likely make some very uncomfortable. War seems to bring out the worse and the best in people and this story portrays that. I also want to note that this is not a story literally dripping with magic. While there is magic, the main focus is on ordinary people dealing with extraordinary circumstances in an unique and totally believable world.

If you love a story with excellent worldbuilding, intense drama, questions which keep you guessing right up until the end and then rewards you with surprises you never saw coming, this is a series for you. I will warn you, this fast paced tale will keep you up nights if you let it. I admit seeing the sun rise myself on a few occasions, having no idea how much time was passing.

  1. This does sound interesting. I'll have to use in-state Inter-Library Loan if I try it thru them first, but I'm tempted to do just that. They do have all three, just not at the branch in my town. {SMILE}

    I'll probably buy it later if I like it. {Smile}

  2. Ah Anne, bless your heart, don't know what I'd do without you. Blogging can be such a lonely business.

  3. When no one answers, I often wonder if anyone bothered to read what I wrote, or if they all just skipped it for whatever reason. That's part of why I make a point to speak up when everyone else is being quiet. It's the best way I've foudn to let you know I'm paying attention. {SMILE}
